Art Basel is a for-profit, privately owned and managed international art fair staged annually in Basel, Switzerland, Miami Beach, Florida, and Hong Kong, selling established and emerging artists. Art Basel Miami Beach was first introduced in 2002 under the direction of Sam Keller.
This was my first time visiting the city during the Art Basel week (every year in December). Miami was vibrant, full of beautiful art and people, parties and events. In this visit I covered these art shows: Scope, Red Dot, Spectrum, Miami Art Basel and Design Miami. You need to make sure to reserve a hotel room in advance and to be aware that the room prices will be extremely high during this week. The tickets for the art show can be purchased on site or online, but they will be a bit cheaper if you purchase them online. One more important detail to know when you are traveling from one event to the other is that Lyft prices are cheaper in Miami than Uber prices, but during the week of the art show, the city of Miami provides free shuttles that can take you from place to place.
